The Battery Tender® Jump N Start 2000 Amp is the top choice for overland use — 2000 peak Amps of lithium cranking power in a compact unit that fits in a storage bag or glove compartment. It starts gas engines up to 8.0L and diesel engines up to 6.5L, including full-size trucks and SUVs common in the overlanding community. The lithium cell maintains charge for months without degradation — critical for emergency gear that must be ready after weeks of storage between trips. The 2000 Amp Power Station adds a 100W AC inverter for powering devices and tools at camp.
For daily drivers heading out for weeks, a Battery Tender® solar charger and maintainer connected to the auxiliary battery via the roof rack or hood keeps the battery topped off during stops and camp setups. For dual-battery setups running a house bank for fridge, lights, and electronics, the PowerTender® Multi-Chemistry charger and maintainer handles both lead-acid and Lithium auxiliary batteries at the correct ISM charging profile. Connect the PowerTender® to the auxiliary bank overnight via shore power or solar when available.
For full-size trucks, SUVs, and diesel-powered 4WDs: Jump N Start 1500 Amp (up to 6.5L diesel) or Jump N Start 2000 Amp (up to 8.0L gas, up to 6.5L diesel). For midsize trucks and gas-powered 4WDs: Jump N Start 600 or 800 Amp handles vehicles up to 6.5L gas. The 800 Amp includes an integrated tire inflator — particularly useful on the trail for airing back up after airing down. For international overlanders or those with extreme cold weather exposure, the 2000 Amp lithium unit performs reliably down to -40°F.
Dual-battery overland setups typically run a standard starting battery and an auxiliary deep-cycle or Lithium house battery isolated by a battery isolator or DC-DC charger. For charging and maintaining the auxiliary bank at camp via shore power, the PowerTender® 3 to 5 Amp Multi-Chemistry charger and maintainer handles both lead-acid and Lithium auxiliary batteries with the correct ISM profile for each. For keeping the starting battery maintained during long storage between trips, a Battery Tender® Plus or Junior charger and maintainer connected to the primary battery ensures it starts reliably on day one of the next expedition.
At minimum: a Battery Tender® Jump N Start 2000 Amp portable jump starter (stored charged — lithium maintains charge for months), a set of SAE quick-disconnect cables for fast connection to any Battery Tender® charger and maintainer at camp or at a trailhead, and a Battery Tender® 12V/6V Battery Tester for quickly assessing battery health before a remote trip. For extended expeditions, add a Battery Tender® solar charger and maintainer for the auxiliary bank and a portable PowerTender® for overnight charging via generator or shore power when available.
